S.LOW ist ein interdisziplinäres Projekt, das 34 internationale Künstler aus den Bereichen der Bildenden Kunst, der Komposition mit elektronischen Medien, der Musikologie, der Performance, des Ingenieurwesens, der Physik und des Films in Berlin zusammenbringt. Es zielt darauf ab, in der Zusammenarbeit Synergien zu artikulieren, indem sich die Teilnehmer im Kontext der Hauptstadt Berlin mit dem Konzept von ‘slow’ und ‘low’ auseinandersetzen.

S.LOW beinhaltet musikalische Darbietungen, Ausstellungen, Soundinstallationen, Screenings, Workshops und Diskussionsrunden. Aus der Kollaboration der Teilnehmer und ihrer ortsbezogenen Interaktion im Berliner Raum sollen sich langfristig sowohl die Entwicklung neuer Werke, als auch neue Verbindungen unter den Teilnehmern ergeben. Des Weiteren sollen die Ideen, auf denen das Projekt beruht, fortgeführt und umgesetzt werden.

Bisher hat das S.LOW Projekt zwei Veranstaltungsorte in Berlin gewinnen können: '91mQ' im Stadtteil Friedrichshain und 'NK' in Neukölln. Zwei andere Veranstaltungsorte haben prinzipiell ihre Zustimmung zur Teilnahme gegeben, zwei weitere werden zusätzlich angemietet (Einzelheiten sind dem Programm zu entnehmen).

Das Projekt wird größtenteils von Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd. koordiniert, einer gemeinnützigen GmbH mit Sitz in Manchester, UK. Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd. beruft sich auf zwei Jahrzehnte Erfahrung und den Einsatz auf den Gebieten der Darstellenden Kunst, der kreativen Tonkunst, der Wissenschaft und digitaler Technologie.

Das Prinzip:

Die Teilnehmer des Projekts S.LOW wurden von den Direktoren aufgrund bestimmter, folgend benannter Kriterien ausgewählt: eine intensive und reflexive Werkbetrachtung; ein internationales Tätigkeitsfeld; unterschiedliche Disziplinen und Arbeitsbereiche, die interessante Ergebnisse bei der Zusammenarbeit versprechen. Ein weiteres Kriterium für die Kompatibilität der Teilnehmer ist eine bereits erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit den Direktoren bei diversen vorhergehenden Projekten.

Panel focus: A challenge that artists constantly face is how to situate themselves within the larger social landscape, especially one that is plagued by more problems than ever before. Above almost every other issue in the current global discourse is the destruction of our environment and our obligation to prevent its demise. While the art world struggles to come up with a good response, we ask our group of practitioners how greener living can be featured more prominently in artistic production and whether art workers should reevaluate their positions in light of our planet's precarious future.

Art space Kunstraum Richard Sorge, located in the East-Berlin Friedrichshain district built after WWII in a heroic Russian kitsch style, is named after the communist spy (Ian Fleming's model for James Bond) that reputedly saved the Western world from Nazism.

From its bountiful space situated in a vast, romantically crumbling and street-art covered historic Berlin brewery that hosts many art spaces, Kunstraum Richard Sorge reaches a young, and international audience, but adventurous discerning art lovers as well.

Its exhibitions focus on confrontational crafts, club/vj/kinetic art, GLBTQ art and subcultures. Like its namesake, the initiative independently works from a marginal, yet cosmopolitan position to ultimately save the world.

Julian Bonequi

Julian Bonequi (born December 27, 1974 ) is a Mexican artist working mostly with Noise and Improvisation. Parallely with his development and professional interest in Art and Design, since 1995 is devoted to Music.

Curator of Audition Records, Cultural Cooperation and Dissemination Management of MusicalibreAssociation, NK Projekt resident artist, drums on Berlin Improvisers Orchestra… Since 2007 is member of the F.O.C.O. Orchestra and Musica Libre in Madrid, and has performed with them under the conduction of William Parker, Keith Tippett, Eddie Prévost, David Leahy, Michael Fisher…

He has played with the London Improvisers Orchestra, Hans Tammen & Ursel Schlicht, Germán Bringas. With Dave Tucker & Ricardo Tejero we recorded Machinations of Joy at MTG Studio Sessions. In 2010 with Mario de Vega, Rogelio Sosa & Juan Pablo Villa we presented the premiere in the Hurta Cordel, of the mexican project Pandillismo, a powerful noise quartet performing in Barcelona and Madrid.

At the end of 90′s he played as invited musician with Decibel ( 1999 ), Culto Sin Nombre… Basically psicodelic bands, chamber music , rock in oposition and other folkloric fusions in Mexico City performing and opening shows… to Magma, John Wetton….

Julian currently is working in his solo project with manipulated drums, electronics and voice.

Jonathan Reus

Jonathan Reus is a digital artist, musician and researcher. His interests include digital culture, computer music, human-computer interaction, and facilitating communication within cross-disciplinary teams.
Jonathan has a complex multi-disciplinary background including fine art, music, computer science, mathematics and marketing. In his work he attempts to draw connections between these often disparate disciplines, and to find a synthesis between the organic and mechanical.
In 2009, Jonathan came to the Netherlands in order to study multidisciplinary teams and digital culture through a Fulbright grant from the United States Department of State.
He currently artist in residency in NK.

Pond Life III: Following on from our success with Pond Life II, we plan to create a new version of the work, developing the themes and technologies of the piece further. Pond Life is a generative audiovisual laboratory that encourages audience exploration and participation. Pond Life II has been exhibited in Montreal (ICMC 2010) and in New York (NYCEMF2).

Inspired by ICMC/NYCEMF2's installation Pond Life, a generative audiovisual laboratory that encourages audience exploration and participation, workshop attendees will be encouraged to put hands and thinking on exercises involving:

• generating complexity from a multiplicity of simple interactivity

• interaction and the artwork as play

• the audiovisual work as a consequence of a deeper behavioural system

• the use and abuse of physical simulation to create real/surreal environments.

Sam and Patrick often use Processing, Max5 and Matlab as tools for their works

(*) Processing is an open source software environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions.

ARTIST PRESENTATION: AUDIO SOFTWARE FOR ARTISTS

Invited speakers will introduce their work (including a multichannel demo session) and will invite questions from the floor at the of the session.

S. Bilbao/ G. Delap: Physical models, Supercomputers and electroacoustic composition. This presentation deals with the use of software which simulates a network of interconnected bar and plate elements towards the creation of electronic music. The composer is faced with the tasks of writing a score, consisting of a series of strikes sent to prescribed locations on the instrument, but also the somewhat larger job of designing the instrument itself, which may consist of upward of 100 elements.

H. Purwins: Unsupervised Synthesis of Variations from Audio Percussion PatternsA joint work (together with Marco Marchini) will be present, a system that learns rhythmic patterns from drum audio recording and synthesizes music variations from the learnt sequence. The procedure is completely unsupervised and embodies the transcription of a percussion sequence into a fuzzy multilevel representation. Moreover, a tempo estimation procedure identifying the most regular subsequence is used to guarantee that the metrical structure is preserved in the generated sequence. The final synthesis is performed, recombining the audio material derived from the sample itself. Several examples (beat boxing, percussion loops) are provided and the system can be tried. meme=brane programme note: Branes are mathematical concepts that appear in string theory in theoretical physics where they represent multi-dimensional objects within higher-dimensional spacetimes (bulks). According to this theory our 3-dimensional world is bound to a D3-brane which exists in a 10-, 11- or 26-dimensional space time. Most of the known elementary particles and forces are "attached" to our D3-brane but there might be objects which can move freely between different branes, like the graviton.

A meme is a unit of cultural ideas, thoughts or symbols analogous to genes which are units of biological information. Memes use communication of their hosts (i.e. human brains) as a means of reproduction. They are subjected to evolutionary processes (variation, mutation, competition, inheritance etc.) like biological units are.

WORKSHOP: LOW COST TECHNOLOGY- EVERYDAY OBJECT SENSORS FOR SOUND INSTALLATIONS BY IAIN McCURDY AND RICARDO CLIMENT

A full-day workshop where participants will collaborate to create an interactive sound installation which will be exhibited on the evening of the workshop.

Participants will be introduced to a variety of sensors (pressure sensors, light sensors, bend sensors, velocity sensors etc.), will be shown how to make many of these from everyday objects and will be shown how to interface these with the computer programme Audiomulch.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop. No prior knowledge or expertise is required just imagination and enthusiasm! All required instruction will be given on the day.

Montse Arbelo and Joseba Franco are founders of ART TECH MEDIA, a Meeting Platform for all sectors linked to art and new media for reflecting upon, analyse and debating across disciplines for the preparation of proposals related to cultural policy, coordination and optimization of resources, artistic production and research and their promotion at a global level.

They are at present organising the project ESPACIO ENTER. International Meeting for all sectors related to art and digital culture, for ideas that will allow us to design the future of technological innovation.

Laughter and tears, like life and death, go hand in hand and are part of our everyday life. But war – violence – is a personal decision exercised with the objective of dominating the other. The desire to impose one's own culture on everyone else has been a constant element among individuals and groups. This situation is constantly aggravated by the different degrees of control over technology and energy resources. The victims are always victims, and the tyrants are never innocent. Visitors won't have a single point of view, they will have to make distinctions and position themselves, strip themselves of their own identities in order to encounter the other, in the others, the thousands of characters who come to life in the images that surround them. They can't opt out. They will go on to form part of this History.

WORKSHOP: Low Cost Technology- Everyday Object Sensors for Sound Installations

This workshop is aimed at those wishing to gain experience working with sensors and finding out about some of the ways in which to interface them to a computer and software.
Participants will be introduced to a variety of sensors (pressure sensors, light sensors, bend sensors, velocity sensors etc.), will be shown how to make many of these from everyday objects.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop. No prior knowledge or expertise is required just imagination and enthusiasm! All required instruction will be given on the day.
More details about how to enrol for this workshop and cost will be come shortly.
Places are limited.

An emphasis will be placed upon the consideration of musical use of sensors rather than merely offering a technical induction.
Following initial introduction and instruction participants will collaborate to create an interactive sound installation which will be exhibited on the evening of the workshop.
We will be using on the programme Audiomulch which offers a good balance between user-friendliness and usefulness. All necessary instruction in using this software will be given on the day - no prior programming knowledge will be required and the programme can be downloaded for free from www.audiomulch.com.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop although a limited number of people can be accommodated with a laptop if required (please request in advance). A variety of hardware solutions for interfacing with the computer will be introduced and provided on the day but feel free to bring you own gadget if you like. No prior knowledge or expertise is required just imagination and enthusiasm!

S.LOW will den Austausch von Wissen und Methodiken fördern, indem die Teilnehmer unabhängig der Disziplin gemeinsame Fragestellungen formulieren. Wichtige Punkte sind dabei: der kreative Einsatz von alternativen (slow und low) Technologien gegenüber der neusten, führenden technischen Entwicklung; die Suche nach einem neuen Rhythmus im kreativen Schaffensprozess, besonders bei interdisziplinären oder gemeinschaftlichen Projekten; die Kunstproduktion, die den intellektuellen Rahmen entweder sehr hoch ansetzt oder diesbezüglich keinen bestimmten Anspruch erhebt, und ihre Relevanz für die Teilnehmer, unabhängig ob mit akademischem oder nichtakademischem Hintergrund, und generell die heutige gegenseitige Beeinflussung von Kunst und Umwelt.

S.LOW beinhaltet musikalische Darbietungen, Ausstellungen, Soundinstallationen, Screenings, Workshops und Diskussionsrunden. Aus der Kollaboration der Teilnehmer und ihrer ortsbezogenen Interaktion im Berliner Raum sollen sich langfristig sowohl die Entwicklung neuer Werke, als auch neue Verbindungen unter den Teilnehmern ergeben. Des Weiteren sollen die Ideen, auf denen das Projekt beruht, fortgeführt und umgesetzt werden.

Bisher hat das S.LOW Projekt zwei Veranstaltungsorte in Berlin gewinnen können: '91mQ' im Stadtteil Friedrichshain und 'NK' in Neukölln. Zwei andere Veranstaltungsorte haben prinzipiell ihre Zustimmung zur Teilnahme gegeben, zwei weitere werden zusätzlich angemietet (Einzelheiten sind dem Programm zu entnehmen).
Das Projekt wird größtenteils von Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd. koordiniert, einer gemeinnützigen GmbH mit Sitz in Manchester, UK. Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd. beruft sich auf zwei Jahrzehnte Erfahrung und den Einsatz auf den Gebieten der Darstellenden Kunst, der kreativen Tonkunst, der Wissenschaft und digitaler Technologie.

Das Prinzip:
Die Teilnehmer des Projekts S.LOW wurden von den Direktoren aufgrund bestimmter, folgend benannter Kriterien ausgewählt: eine intensive und reflexive Werkbetrachtung; ein internationales Tätigkeitsfeld; unterschiedliche Disziplinen und Arbeitsbereiche, die interessante Ergebnisse bei der Zusammenarbeit versprechen. Ein weiteres Kriterium für die Kompatibilität der Teilnehmer ist eine bereits erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit den Direktoren bei diversen vorhergehenden Projekten.

Suk-Jun Kim

A Korean Composer and sound artist, Suk-Jun Kim’s music focuses mainly on the sense of places that are fantastic, imaginary, magical, and realistic, where listeners can visit, stop by, and dwell on. His music has received a number of international awards: Métamorphoses (Biennale Acousmatic Composition Competition in Belgium: 2000 & 2008), Regional Composition Prize at 2008 ICMC in Belfast, Concurso International de Música Electroacústica Såo Paulo (CIMESP: 2007), Bourges International Competition (2001), ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission Competition (2001) as well as mentions and ﬁnalists in MUSICA VIVA (2005) and MUSICA NOVA (2002 & 2005). Kim also received commissions from the 2006 World Cup in Germany (2006), Bourges commissions (2002, 2006 & 2009), SpACE-Net in UK (2007), QUB Silver Collection Soundscape Commission from Belfast (2007), and ASCAP/SEAMUS (2001) and has been a resident composer at Bourges (2004, 2007 & 2009), Visby International Centre for Composer, Sweden (2007), Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida (2007), MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire (2008), and Artists-in-Berlin, DAAD, Germany (2009). Kim’s music has been published by ICMC, IMEB, and SEAMUS, and M&R. DAAD and Kehrer Verlag will publish in the summer of 2010 , Kim’s solo DVD/Catalogue of his compositions and installations. In 2010, Kim is a Leverhulme Trust visiting research fellow at the University of Aberdeen, UK.

Currently, his research concentrates on listening and imagining in electroacoustic music and a framework based on ‘acousmatic reasoning,’ a listening process using both spectromorphological and semiotic listening modes, which listeners of electroacoustic music employ to ‘make sense’ out of the acousmatic experiences. Kim has published papers at the ICMC and Organised Sound. His research also focuses on phenomenological approaches to the aesthetics of electroacoustic music, space and place, platial memory and sound, and magical realism in electroacoustic music among others. Kim’s interest in platial memory and sound has also led him to expand his medium to installations. He recently had his ﬁrst solo exhibition in Berlin, Germany.

S.LOW ist ein sechswöchiges interdisziplinäres Projekt mit 22 internationalen Praktizierenden auf den Gebieten Darstellende Kunst, Komposition im Bereich elektronischer Medien, Musikologie, Darstellung, Ingenieurwesen, Physische Wissenschaft und Film. Das Projekt zielt darauf hin, die Synergien verschiedener Gruppen von Einzelnen zu artikulieren, die eingeladen wurden, sich mit dem Begriff ‘slow’ und/oder ‘low’ innerhalb des Themenbereichs ‘Berlin’ auseinanderzusetzen. Die Ergebnisse werden in den meisten Fällen künstlerisch-praktische Werke sein; das Hauptziel des Projekts ist jedoch der Austausch von Methodologien und Wissen und die Besprechung von gemeinsamen Fragen, bei denen es um die kreative Verwendung von s/low Technologien gegenüber führenden Technologien geht, um die Untersuchung von hohen und niedrigen Kulturströmungen, wie sie von den Teilnehmern aus akademischen und nicht-akademischen Umgebungen beobachtet werden, sowie um den ‘s/low’ Einfluss von Kunst und Künstlern auf die Umgebung in den heranwachsenden Wirtschaftsgebieten gegenüber den westlichen Ländern.

Die Zusammenarbeit der Praktizierenden unter Einbeziehung der örtlichen Bevölkerung wird als Ergebnis 22 neue Werke, 4 Diskussionsrunden, 1 Film-Vorführung, 5 Gemeinschafts-Workshops und 6 ‘Residency’ Plätze haben.

Bis zum heutigen Datum hat das S.LOW Projekt zwei Veranstaltungsorte in Berlin gewinnen können: '91mQ' im Stadtteil Friedrichshain und 'NK' in Neukölln. Zwei andere Veranstaltungsorte haben prinzipiell ihre Zustimmung zur Teilnahme gegeben, zwei weitere werden gemietet werden. Einzelheiten sind dem Anhang zu entnehmen.

Das Projekt wird hauptsächlich von Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd koordiniert, einer gemeinnützigen GmbH mit Sitz in Manchester, UK. Cross-Disciplinary Frog Ltd. beruft sich auf zwei Jahrzehnte an Erfahrung und Einsatz einer Anzahl von Mitarbeitern auf den Gebieten Darstellende Kunst, kreative Tonkunst, Wissenschaft und digitale Technologie..

Ziele:

- Die Möglichkeit zur Kreuzbefruchtung von Projekten Praktizierender, wie sie in der ‘Mind Map’ dargestellt ist (siehe Beispiel).

- Das Zusammenkommen bekannter professioneller Persönlichkeiten zur Besprechung von Themen im Bereich von Kunst und Wissenschaft im Zusammenhang mit den Zielen von S.LOW.

- Die Durchführung der verschiedenen Projekte: 4 Diskussionsrunden, 5 Workshops, 10 Projekte (ausführliche Beschreibungen im Anhang)

- Die Einhaltung der Ideologie des Projekts durch Einbeziehung der örtlichen Bevölkerung, das Zusammenbringen von Teilnehmern aus fortbildenden Instituten mit freiberuflich Arbeitenden und Künstlern, und die Intention, jungen Künstlern die Gelegenheit zu geben, mit erfahrenen Künstlern zusammenzuarbeiten.

- Weitreichende Verbreitung der Ziele des gesamten Projekts.

Erhaltung des Erfolgs:

Die Teilnehmer für S.LOW wurden von den Direktoren auf Grund der folgenden Kriterien ausgewählt: eine direkte und tiefgreifende Kenntnis ihrer Werke; der Ruf, international anerkannte Werke zu liefern; Beiträge zu S.LOWs vielfachen Disziplinen, Persönlichkeiten und Ideologien und die Sicherstellung, dass keine Geschlechtsgruppe oder Nationalität unterrepräsentiert ist oder irgendwelchen die Teilnahme verweigert wird. Ein weiteres Kriterion zur Sicherstellung der Teilnehmerkompatibilität war, dass die Teilnehmer bereits mit den Direktoren bei einem erfolgreichen Projekt zusammengearbeitet hatten. Wir glauben, dass die Erfüllung dieser Kriterien die Garantie für das weitere Bestehen dieses und zukünftiger Projekte sein wird.

Cristina Martín Lara (Málaga, 1972) is one of the most outstanding emerging Andalusian artists today with a major exhibition record, numerous publications and being present in both private and public collections. "Landpartie" is her brand-new series since her previous "Si yo supiera a qué se debe..." acclaimed series and we have scheduled it during the Festival Off of PHE08.

"Landpartie" is an experiment. Cristina puts to test intimate feelings and emotions that are induced by our environment. Therefore she questions, not the thinking Cartesian subject, but the "feeling" subject inscribed into hypermodernity: "I talk about loneliness, loss, disorientation, about what could be but cannot be".

The person is thus subjected to the Pavlovian experiment carelessly, reduced to our most animal essence, more conditioned and more stripped of humanity: speedy carousels, loops… Something that seems funny but is not, something felt but that is pure simulacrum, something said that is nothing but a landslide silence, something thought but being a non-sense banality.

Cristina gives us the pieces of a puzzle with no apparent fitting but that requires our interpretation and our active involvement. Only by doing that we will be able to find a factible path, a road to somewhere...

ARTISTIC MULTIDISCIPLINARY HAPPENING DIRECTED BY SERGIO ZAVATTIERI

INSTRUCTIONS

The event will start in 91mQ, the 29th of July 2010 at 18:00.

The event is open to anybody interested in participating.

You will need to bring a small photography (between 10 x 15 cm and 20 x 30 cm with your name and surname written on the back) which defines a significant moment in your present or past life, related directly or indirectly to the city of Berlin.

The participants will have to talk briefly about the personal meaning of the chosen photography before hanging it on the previously selected wall in 91mQ. The event will be open from this day every Thursday (August 5, August 12 and August 19) from 4pm to 6pm until the day of the opening on August 20 at 7pm.

The organization will not be responsible for any damage, loss or theft of the exhibited photographs. It is compulsory to bring a copy instead of the original.

The photographs will remain in the exhibition space until the 21st of August. Participants can collect them in 91mQ during the opening times of the art space.

RATIONALE
The intention of the event is to act as a space of reflection in a historical moment, where the image is consumed quickly and in excess, often without the possibility of reflection and assimilation of the content. A break in time and space, like the concept of photography. At the end it will be possible to see all photographs, the merging of important moments, forming a single body, multiplying and producing new meetings.

Der Treffpunkt ist 91mQ am 29. Juli 2010 um 18:00h

Es kann jeder teilnehmen, der es möchte

Die Teilnehmer müssen ein Foto mitbringen, das einen Augenblick des aktuellen oder vergangenen Lebens bezeichnet und in einer direkten oder indirekten Verbindung mit der Stadt Berlin steht. Die Maße des Fotos sollten zwischen 10 x 15 cm und 20 x 30 cm betragen und mit dem Namen und Nachnamen des Fotografen auf der Rückseite versehen sein.

Die Teilnehmer werden kurz auf die persönliche Bedeutung der gewählten Fotografie eingehen. Später werden die Fotografien im 91mQ auf einer Fotowand ausgestellt. Die Ausstellung wird ab dem 29. Juli jeden Donnerstag (5., 12. und 19. August) zwischen 16:00h und 18:00h und zur Finissage am 20. August um 19:00h zu sehen sein.

Im Falle von Verlust, Beschädigung oder Raub der Fotos übernimmt der Veranstalter keine Haftung, so sollte eventuell eine Kopie und kein Original eingereicht werden.

Die Fotografien werden bis zum 21. August ausgestellt bleiben. Sie können dann während den Öffnungszeiten des Projektraums abgeholt werden.

ERKLÄRUNG
Das Projekt soll als Reflexionsraum eines historischen Augenblicks dienen, in dem das Bild exzessiv und in rasender Geschwindigkeit rezipiert wird, oft ohne Reflexionsmöglichkeit oder inhaltlicher Auseinandersetzung. Es versteht sich als eine zeitliche und räumliche Pause, wie das Konzept der Fotografie selbst.
Am Ende des Projekts können alle Fotografien als Summe betrachtet werden, als eine Verschmelzung wichtiger Augenblicke, die sich untereinander zusammenschließen und zu einem Körper werden, sich multiplizieren und neue Zusammenhänge erzeugen.

El lugar de encuentro es 91mQ el 29 de julio de 2010 a las 18:00h

Podrán participar todas las personas que lo deseen.

Es necesario llevar una fotografía de tamaño pequeño (entre 10 x 15 cm, y 20x30cm, con el nombre y el apellido del autor escrito en el dorso) que defina un momento significativo en la vida reciente o pasada relacionado directa o indirectamente con la ciudad de Berlín.

Las personas participantes deberán hablar brevemente sobre el significado personal de la fotografía elegida y después la colocarán en 91mQ en la pared reservada para este efecto. El evento estará abierto a partir del 29 de julio cada jueves (5 de agosto, 12 de agosto y 19 de agosto) entre las 16:00h y las 18:00h hasta el dia de la inauguración el 20 de agosto a las 19:00h.

En ningún caso la organización se hace responsable de la eventual pérdida, deterioro o robo de las fotografías expuestas, por lo tanto se obliga a presentar una copia y no un original.

Las fotografías se quedarán colgadas hasta el 21 de agosto. Se podrán retirar posteriormente durante el horario de apertura de la sala.

PORQUE
El evento quiere actuar como espacio de reflexión en un momento histórico en que la imagen es consumida en exceso y con rapidez, muchas veces sin posibilidad de reflexión y asimilación del contenido. Una pausa temporal y espacial como el concepto mismo de la fotografía. Al termino será posible la visión de todas las fotografías, la fusión de momentos importantes que se unen entre ellos, formando un único cuerpo, multiplicándose y produciendo nuevos encuentros.

Possono partecipare tutte le persone che lo desiderano.

É necessario consegnare una fotografia di piccole dimensioni (tra 10 x 15 cm, e 20x30cm, con nome e cognome dell'autore scritto sul retro) che definisca un momento significativo della vita relazionato in maniera diretta o indiretta con la cittá di Berlino.

Le persone partecipanti dovranno descrivere brevemente il significato personale della fotografia scelta ed installarla successivamente in una parete di 91mQ riservata a questo scopo. L'evento rimmarrá aperto dal 29 di luglio ogni giovedí (5 di agosto, 12 di agosto e 19 di agosto) dalle 16:00 e le 18:00 fino il giono della inaugurazione il 20 di agosto alle 19:00.

In nessun caso l'organizazione é responsabile della eventuale perdita, deterioro o furto delle fotografie esposte, per cui si obbliga di presentare una copia e non un originale.

PERCHÉ
L'evento vuole agire come spazio di riflessione in un momento storico in cui l'immagine é consumata in eccesso e con rapiditá, molto spesso senza possibilitá di riflessione e assimilazione del contenuto. Una pausa temporale e spaziale come il concetto stesso della fotografia. ARTISTS PRESENTATION

Institute of Algorhythmics Presentation: Michael Chinen, Shintaro Miyazaki and Akitoshi Honda

Date: Friday 30 of July - Time: 7pm - 9pm

Akitoshi Honda and Michael Chinen will present their custom mp3 player with user-activity based visualization and synthesized funny symbol sounds and effects, called MiruTune.

MiruTune watches which applications are currently being used and record its timestamp. This data is stored as metadata for each mp3 file which is reloaded upon subsequent openings of the same mp3.

The sound effects are calculated from the computer's active memory state (RAM), pitch shift, symbol sounds based upon the currently active application's title, and a few others.

As more user activity data is collected, the music from the original mp3 becomes chunks of noises and funny synthesized sounds.

Currently many people are listening to music thru a computer as background music. In other words, people are doing other tasks at the same time. MiruTune builds a relationship between these tasks and the music.

The Name comes from Miru (watch in japanese) and Tune.

Shintaro Miyazaki and Michael Chinen will present two of their projects which analyze and sonify algorithms and hidden processes that happen within your everyday computer usage. lstn is a custom debugger which can attach to any running program on a mac to decode and sonify elements of the program such as memory state and opcodes while being able to control the program's speed and other elements.

AlgorhythmicSorting is a sonification and visualization of several popular sorting algorithms. Sorting algorithms are very common, yet simple algorithms that exhibit various levels of complexity. They were chosen to demonstrate as proof of concept that the structure and complexity of algorithms can be useful for sonification and visualization.

It has been said that Picasso preferred to scrawl a quick sketch than pay for his dinner in cash. In this anecdote, his concept of money evidently never surmounted his working-class background that saw a causal relationship between time and currency: the negligible minute or two to draw something was, in his mind, of less worth than the restaurant bill. This logic still continues to resonate in most people today, which then begs the question of how time itself becomes a factor in an artistic practice. Focussing on the spontaneity and/or patience demonstrated in their work, the panel participants will discuss their understanding of time and the part it plays in the audience's perception.

Inspired by ICMC/ NYCEMF2's installation Pond Life, a generative audiovisual laboratory that encourages audience exploration and participation, workshop attendees will be encourage to put hands and thinking on exercises involving:

• generating complexity from a multiplicity of simple interactivity

• interaction and the artwork as play

• the audiovisual work as a consequence of a deeper behavioural system

• the use and abuse of physical simulation to create real/surreal environments. Sam and Patrick often use Processing, Max5 and Matlab as tools for their works (*) Processing is an open source software environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions.

LOW-COST: Sonifying Urban Spaces and Imaginary Landscapes

A full-day practice-led workshop where participants will put their hands on task-oriented exercises involving low-cost sensors technology and open source software (mostly). Projects will be inspired by the iconography that is created by city transport maps and travel journeys. Examples and technology revealed will include McCurdy's Sonicography and Climent's Ho- A Sonic Expedition to Vietnam.

Language: The workshop will be mostly in English, although German and Spanish is supported.
